ooouu asked: Have you ever felt unwelcome at your dance school by fellow students? That's how I feel. I mean I knew that at some point there would be competition, but it makes me uncomfortable. I get intimidated easily so when I'm dancing and I see them giving me looks it takes all the happiness and joy out of what I love. I also got new teachers and they're not great at teaching. I mean with my old teacher you could feel the passion that she had and the new ones don't seem to love what they do. CONTINUED...

They’re not encouraging and it makes me feel like crud in class. I try not think about it, but the difference is really felt. It makes me really sad, because I love dance (ballet&jazz) and it’s as if I’m being put down or they’re trying to stop me. I don’t know, just looking for advice from others who have maybe experienced similar situations? Thank you <3”

I have never felt unwelcome. But I guess it’s more I’ve never let myself feel unwelcome. I only made friends this year at dance. So for the past 3 or so years I didn’t really have friends.

The girls were really competitive too - in terms of who could get the highest jumps, who was the most flexible etc.

You just have to realise; people are mean. You have to believe in yourself, and believe that you are totally awesome. When you feel like a crap dancer, you’ll dance like crap.

So, ignore the others. Dance only for yourself. Know that you’re fantastic and you can do it - and it will radiate.

As for the teacher issue; if changing classes or schools is not possible; then you’ll just have to make up for their lack of passion through yourself.

Just know who you are as a dancer. Know that you are graceful, elegant, beautiful, strong, and amazing. Dance for yourself and no one else.
