glossyturquoisekisses said: How could you get en pointe? What level were you? And how many times did you dance in a week? Wow you must be a good dancer :D

When I seriously (mentally) started, I danced twice a week for one hour each. I was doing grade four, RAD. Now I am in Intermediate Foundation dancing twice a week for five hours in total. It’s barely anything compared to most dancers, but I like to think I’ve worked hard.

Haha, I’m not very good - but I guess I have most of my technique down and I’m naturally more flexible and have good turnout (or so I’ve been told). But I still have horrible feet and am no where near what is regarded a “perfect” ballet body in my school (and in most schools). But I absolutely love dance, and at the end of the day that’s what counts.

omigod, how old you were?? i mean, i just started to dance and my teacher says that she’ll probably try to put us en pointe… and i’m so confused about it.

I started ballet properly at 15, took a year break in between, and went en pointe at 17.

you got en pointe within a year?

Yes, indeed!

Hi! I really loove this tumblr! Excuse me for my bad English! Well, i started doing streetdance around my 11th. No big deal, just for fun. But i realized that I wanted to do more with dance, so at my 15th i started ballet. That's about a year ago. But the problem is, I can't lift my legs at all. Just a random person could lift it op higher than me! Is it because i'm so un-stretched or do i need to train the muscels? Oh, and if i train very hard, do i have the chance to go on pointes one day? XXX

I made you a video on two exercises we did in class to improve extensions: http://youtu.be/zXmRCac9RPU

Stretching is also very important, use link 4 from the dance tips section. (Sorry, for some reason the link isn’t working).

Pointe is very hard and requires a lot of experience and strength. If you work hard and keep practicing anything is possible. I am definite that you will get en pointe, just persevere.

To the last anon: When I switched dance studios, I was really behind everyone else, and it was very embarrassing because I was terrible. But I quickly caught up and now, four years later, I'm just as good (if not better) than the other girls at my studio. Just keep trying, you'll get better I promise.

I just switched studios, and it only took about thirty seconds of my new advanced ballet class to realize that I'm very VERY behind technically than the other girls. My turns, my leaps, my overall form. The reason I switched studios is because I knew that my old one was not teaching me the things that I needed, and I was right. How can I catch up? I feel so out of place.

By practicing! There is no magical cure or strategy. Practice makes perfect. This is a fundamental law in dance.

Do all the movements technically correctly. So aim from quality not quantity. Don’t aim for a double until you have a PERFECT single.

But just practice, practice, practice. There’s a ten year old in my class, who’s better than some of the advanced students because she sees a move or is taught a exercise - and she practices her heart out.

Hey :) We are 2 danish girls, doing a school project about dance, and why it is important to support the dance culture, not only in Denmark but all over the world. As a part of our project we're doing a dance blog, and we really need some help on that! We need someone to take part in a discussion about the importance of dance, and we would like some people to submit photos and videos! We was wondering if maybe you would help us out by promoting us? We're doing the presentation next tuesday! Thnx

Well, you heard them, help out fellow dancers in need!!
